Night Diving at Vobster...

You'll find a full range of torches in the Vobster Quay dive shop.

Familiar dive attractions take on a whole new dimension at night...

DIVING ADVICE

Diving at night can be a lot of fun providing you follow some common-sense advice...
  • Get trained - sign up for a PADI Night Diver Specialty

  • Always carry a primary torch with fresh batteries

  • Always carry a reliable backup torch...

  • Night air is colder in winter so watch for freeflows!

  • Do not dazzle other divers with your torch beam!

  • Use glowsticks or a strobe to aid buddy contact

  • Go slow and stay close to avoid buddy separation

  • Stay shallow - there's no reason to go deep!

The Darkness Beckons...

Everyone remembers their first night dive and the deep-seated, almost primeval feeling of apprehension that we felt beforehand. Of course most of us also remember how very quickly those irrational fears were replaced by something altogether different - feelings of deep relaxation, inner peace and a heightened sense of awareness that only a relaxing night dive brings...

Whether you've dived Vobster Quay just once or you're a seasoned regular, a night dive in the lake is an experience not to be missed. With nothing more than your torch beam to guide you, the lake waters take on an entirely new character that makes for a truely unique experience. Everything in the lake seems somehow 'different' with the shadows cast by your torch beam giving the lake's many varied dive attractions a wholly new and unique perspective.

Please note that divers visiting site on a day on which a night dive evening is scheduled will need to pay an additional entry fee if they wish to stay on after the site's normal opening hours to take advantage of the night diving opportunity. Divers are not allowed in the water during the break between normal and night diving hours and the food catering van may close briefly for restocking.

Our night dive evenings are open to any diver who is either a qualified night diver or has previous experience of night diving. If you've never dived at night before, we recommend you seek suitable training first - we can offer the PADI Night Diver Speciality through our own dive school should you require it. This comprehensive course will teach you all you need to know to get the most from night diving in a safe and competant manner. The course includes three night dives normally conducted at Vobster Quay...

Please note that *all* divers must be equipped with at least one torch per diver and have at least one backup torch available per buddy pair. Unfortunately we do not hire torches at the present time so it's important that you bring your own.

Of course if you are in the market for a new torch, a full range of dive torches - along with ll the spare batteries, glowsticks and strobes you could ever wish for - are normally available from the Vobster Quay dive shop should you wish to splash out. We stock a selection of torches from some of the biggest names in the industry including Underwater Kinetics, Princeton Tec and Halcyon...

LET'S DO IT! - Want to sign you and your buddy up for our next night dive evening? Contact us on 01373 814666 now!

Things have certainly moved on in the last 40 years but it's good to see that even in the mid-1970s, Vobster Quay was still a popular place to train divers! Thanks to Neil Withers for sharing this fabulous photo...
