Discover Vobster Quay...

Isn't it time you discovered the UK’s premier location for deepwater trials, scientific research and media productions? Located in the heart of the scenic Somerset countryside, Vobster Quay is built upon the banks of a 36-acre fresh water lake suitable for a wide range of commercial and media activities.

A former deepwater research site for the Ministry of Defence, the lake's topography (click to view sidescan image) offers a range of water depths from 6m/20ft to a maximum of 40m/130ft. With excellent water clarity and access from extensive waterside concrete aprons, Vobster Quay can also provide ample office, training, secure storage and workshop space for your project. For those with more specific needs, we can help with any additional logistics.

Our secluded rural location offers discrete, low background noise for testing and filming, while a three metre-high perimeter fence and police-linked alarm system gives your equipment maximum security. In addition, a large car park provides excellent space for equipment deployment or support trailer parking.

Access is equally good from the M3, M4 and M5 with a 2-3 hour travel time typical from central London (view map). In addition, Bristol International Airport is less than 45 minutes by road. The area is well served for good value accommodation and Vobster Quay is less than 2 minutes from the exclusive Babington House hotel and country club. The nearest town is approximately 10 minutes drive.

Our experienced staff have a background in marine science and have hosted numerous trials, client demos and filming events. Whatever your requirements, we can tailor our facility to suit your needs...

Things have certainly moved on in the last 40 years but it's good to see that even in the mid-1970s, Vobster Quay was still a popular place to train divers! Thanks to Neil Withers for sharing this fabulous photo...
